The Boys is Girls' Generation's third album. The title track was used as the lead single. Two months later, the album was re-released as a repackage album.

In August 2011, S.M. Entertainment confirmed that the group would be back in September with their third full-length album, but the release date was eventually delayed to October due to Sooyoung’s unexpected car accident injury.

In January and February 2012, the album was released in the USA and Europe respectively. Instead of the original tracklist, both the Korean and English versions were swapped around and 4 remixes of "The Boys" were included.

Sales and ChartsEdit

The Boys debuted at #1 on the Gaon Weekly Albums chart and has sold over 400,000 copies in South Korea alone, becoming the best selling album of 2011. The album peaked at #2 on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart, the standard album chart of Japan, with sales records of more than 100,000 copies in the country. In addition, the album moved 26,000 copies in Taiwan.

The US edition of The Boys did not replicate the same commercial performance as it did in its native country. The album failed to enter the Billboard 200, but debuted at #2 on the Billboard World Albums and re-entered the Heatseekers Album chart at #17.
