Mr.Mr. is Girls' Generation's fourth mini-album, and the first mini-album released after a four-year period. The digital version was released February 24, 2014, while the physical copy was released on February 27. The album debuted at the 110 spot on the "Billboard 200" album chart, making it the highest ranking the group has ever made on the chart, the next being the sub-unit TaeTiSeo's debut album, Twinkle.
The album was digitally released on February 24, 2014. The album, consisting of six songs, was released worldwide through iTunes, Melon, Genie, and other online music portals. The physical album hit stores on February 27, 2014. In addition, the group's first comeback performance had been scheduled for March 6, 2014 on M! Countdown. Girls’ Generation performed both "Mr.Mr." and "Wait a Minute" on Mnet’s M! Countdown last March 6 and Show! Music Core last March 8 and both "Mr.Mr." and "Back Hug" on KBS’s Music Bank and SBS’s Inkigayo. The group also made several variety show appearances. The Chinese Edition of the album was released on June 16, 2014 in China. The edition included the Chinese version of "Soul" in place of the Korean version. Upon its release, Mr.Mr received favorable reviews from music critics. Allmusic noted 3.5/5 stars and Billboard noted 4/5 saying it was "a more impressive effort" than the I Got a Boy album.

Mr.Mr. claimed the top spot of the South Korean Gaon Album Chart. It became the fifth highest-selling album and the best-selling album by a girl group of 2014 in South Korea, selling 163,209 copies. Mr.Mr. debuted at number 110 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 3,000 copies in its first week. In doing so, the EP became Girls' Generation's highest-charting release on the Billboard 200 following subgroup TTS's Twinkle charted at number 126 in 2012.
All six songs from the album charted on the Gaon Digital Chart: "Mr.Mr." at number 1, "Goodbye" at number 10, "Wait a Minute" at number 18, "Back Hug" at number 24, "Europa" at number 25, and "Soul" at number 33. In 2014, the single had a total of 906,962 downloads in Gaon 2014 Yearly Charts, charting at #46.
